Honoring All Learners

Our goals for honoring all learners are to provide: academic and behavioral support for students, interventions for gaps in learning, dyslexia instruction to students who have been screened for dyslexia (link this to article?), enrichment activities for students performing above grade level.

Differentiated Learning Programs at Cathedral - The program at Cathedral of the Risen Christ works with parents, students, and teachers to provide the best learning environment with educational interventions to enrich and assist students to meet various academic levels.

Students vary greatly and our teachers want to maximize our students’ individual potential. When intended outcomes are not being achieved in the classroom, a teacher will differentiate the instruction method to better accommodate the students’ learning styles and abilities.

If a student’s success is in jeopardy, they may be referred to the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) team for review of ITBS, CogAT results, reading benchmarks, grades, and overall progress. We may then recommend and implement interventions to support the student in his/her academic and behavioral journey at Cathedral.

What does this look like?

  • Classroom differentiation - enhanced learning, learning readiness within the classroom
  • Dyslexia program - dedicated instruction and practice
  • Tutoring program - with teachers, Pius X students, and adult volunteers
  • Special education services - in partnership with Lincoln Public Schools
Experiential learning

Experiential learning refers to planned learning experiences that take place in the classroom, out in nature, in the community, or those that bring the community to the classroom. These experiences allow students to engage more fully in their learning and apply it to real-life settings.

These activities can include:

  • Theatrical performances
  • Holiday musical programs
  • Junior Achievement entrepreneurship program
  • Reading buddy program
  • Socratic Seminars
  • Student leadership opportunities (announcements, NJHS, prayer, serving or reading at Mass, etc.)
  • Skills competitions (Page One reading, Lego League, MATHCOUNTS)
  • Certified Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom & Program
  • Butterfly garden
  • Field trips & excursions
  • Service opportunities (Matt Talbot, food drives, Earth Day, etc)
Technology in the classrooms

The tools of technology are used in Cathedral classrooms to complement the overall learning experience of our children. Technology is only integrated into the learning process when there is evidence that it enhances learning (italicize this as a quote).

Cathedral boasts technology in every classroom, which is used for students to collaborate, create, and to do research to enhance the learning experience.

As part of the Lincoln Diocese, Cathedral is provided 24/7 technology monitoring and security resources to protect children from harmful content.
