Faith & Sacraments
Our Catholic Faith is an integral part of the school day at Cathedral. Sacraments and prayer are the foundation upon which everything else is built.
Daily prayer and Mass
The school day begins with daily Mass and includes prayer during the beginning and end of day announcements, before and after meals, as well as other times throughout the day in the classroom.
Students help with reading, music, and altar serving at school Masses. Parents and family members are welcome to attend the school Masses as well.
Monthly confession, Rosary, and First Friday Benediction
Students have the opportunity once a month to attend confession. Each month also includes First Friday Benediction which provides students with time in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and ends in a school-wide blessing.
Other opportunities throughout the year
The school year additionally includes Eucharistic Processions, a Little Saints Presentation in observance of All Saints’ Day, a school-wide Living Rosary, May Crowning at a school Mass, and more.
Sacrament Preparation
Students in 2nd and 5th grade at Cathedral go through sacrament preparation for First Reconciliation (Confession), First Holy Communion, and Confirmation in the classroom setting. Preparation includes learning all or part of the 92 questions, which are unique to the Diocese of Lincoln.
Faith life clubs
Advocates of St. Angela Merici: Consisting of 7th and 8th grade girls at Cathedral, the Advocates are a prayer and service group.
Soldiers of St. Sebastian: Consisting of 7th and 8th grade boys at Cathedral, the Soldiers serve at Cathedral School’s daily Masses. The group also plays a prominent role in First Friday Benediction, Stations of the Cross, and parish liturgies such as funerals.
Service and Faith in Action
Students participate in projects throughout the year in service to the parish, school, and others in the community. Projects include: food pantry collections, making cards for the home bound, maintaining the butterfly garden, Earth Day planting and grounds pick up, and many others.
